About

Self-defence isn’t about ‘fighting’. It’s about personal safety, and sometimes even survival.

Practical self-defence training should address realistic situations and threats that individuals are confronted with in the context of everyday life. It should include not only the physical aspects of the confrontation, but also psychological and physiological factors, and incorporate instinctive and often involuntary responses that occur when our safety is threatened.

At VALIANT, we focus our training on simple and effective skills that are easy to learn, utilising scenario-based delivery to provide solutions to threats that are contemporary, relevant, and age-appropriate.

The science of self-defence

We offer a multi-disciplinary skillset, and are proud to be certified to deliver training under the SPEAR: Personal Defence Readiness system.

The SPEAR System, founded by Tony Blauer (founder/owner of Blauer Tactical Systems), is a self-protection system based on the physiology, psychology, and physics of real violence. Evidence shows that when humans are confronted with sudden violence, we revert to using primal gross-motor skills to protect ourselves. The SPEAR system utilises, refines and ‘weaponises’ these survival reflexes to create a truly behaviourally-based self-defence system that feels natural, and easy to learn.

The SPEAR System® utilises the speed and reliability of the startle-flinch mechanism to convert the sudden attack into a tactical counter.
